Carole-Joy

Carol-Joy Evert

CAROLE-JOY OBTAINED HER FIRST DOG, A PEMBROKE WELSH CORGI, IN August of 1963. The purchase was a result of having seen the Walt Disney TV movie, “Little Dog Lost”, which aired in 1961. In the 60s, there were few breeders of Pembrokes anywhere in the West.

“Larklain Katy-Did" became the first Pembroke Welsh Corgi bitch to earn every title then available from the AKC: a Champion Utility Dog Tracker (Ch.UDT). Katy is behind the Katydid Corgi bloodlines to this day, though usually in the 6th, 7th, or 8th generation: “Katydid Can Do Corgis."

As of January 2002, Carole-Joy and her Katydid Corgis have earned the following titles: 25 CHs, 17 CDs, 9 CDXs, 5 UDs, 15 TDs, 10 TDXs, and 3 VST titles and 3 CTs. ("VST" is the Variable Surface Tracker title, the highest level in AKC. Earning all three titles earns the dog a "CT" or Champion Tracker title). CJ has the first female in the breed, (seems that also occurred back in 1967, a first for Katy), Katy’s great-great-great-grand daughter to achieve another first, CT. Ch. Katydid I’m A Butterkup CD.

Butterkup's daughter, Ch. Katydid Paddy’s Brooke, placed Best of Opposite Sex at the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of the Rockies August Specialty in 1998; Brooke was BISS (or Best in Show Specialty or BEST OF BREED) at the same show, in 1999 at the age of 6 ˝ years.

CJ has been judging since 1971 and is approved for all obedience and tracking classes. She has judged and given seminars across the US and Canada. She has been the associate editor for the Corgi Quarterly since its inception in 1983. She has held offices in the Colorado Kennel Club, Terry-All Kennel Club, Mountain States Dog Training Club, Denver Foothills Tracking Association and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of the Rockies.
