Course Descriptions
KPT: (Kindergarten Puppy Training) 6 Week course: Positive conditioning for proper behavior at home and in the world. 8-20 weeks of age.
SPK: (Star Puppy Kindergarten) 8 Week course: To begin positive conditioning for proper behavior in the home; proper socializing skills with people and other dogs; an introduction to obedience, vet exams, agility, and tricks! 8 -20 weeks of age. Includes Puppy Star certification.
JR. BEGINNERS: 8-week course: For training the older puppies. The puppy may be too old for KPT but may not be mentally or physically mature enough for the Pre-Beginners course. Lessons will include walking on a loose leash, coming when called, down and sit, stays, tricks, socialization with other puppies, people and objects. At least 5 months old. Monday course will include the Novice Tricks title.
PRE-BEGINNERS: 6-week course: That helps dogs transition into the more formal Beginners course. This course is for young dogs that need more time to mature, rescue dogs and older dogs who need to learn some basic skills before entering Beginners. This class will review some of the Jr. Beginners exercises and introduce new skills. Dogs will learn house manners and some tricks which can be used toward the Intermediate Tricks title.
BEGINNERS: 8 weeks course: To introduce the AKC Novice obedience exercises and more formal training in heeling, stays, recalls and basic at-home manners. Some dogs may be ready at 1 year; however, check with your trainer. Young dogs and newly acquired older dogs will benefit from Pre-Beginners prior to entering Beginners.
CANINE GOOD CITIZENS / ADVANCED CGC / URBAN CGC: 6 week course 3 titles: BSDT is proud to offer students the opportunity to earn the CGC title, the CGCA title and the CGCU title. For those handler/dog teams wanting to pursue therapy work or those wanting a well-mannered dog, this course is a must. For more information on the requirements, go to www.AKC.org. Beginners course or assessment by one of the instructors is required.
FREE-STYLE DANCE: An 8 Week course. To teach dog and handler 20-24 basic free-style moves. Smooth transitions and combining moves will be touched on. Due to the format of this class NO AGGRESSIVE DOGS will be permitted.
CONFORMATION HANDLING: 45 minute, 4 week course for puppies 6 months to adult to learn handling skills and breed standards. Taught by AKC judges.
